fyi, Steam will check your ATI drivers too... open the main steam window -> Steam -> Check for Video Driver Updates...  They lag a day or so behind the actual release, but Valve (the company who does Steam) checks out the stability of all updates on their own rigs before releasing. (yes, you can still have issues, because of the sheer number of combinations of hardware out there, but the chances are Somewhat less)
