IMPORTANT! Nvidia 196.76 drivers!
WannaBFri Mar 05, 2010 5:32 am
Please revert back to an older version of drivers asap!
Nvidia has reported people having issues with the video drivers locking up and causing the video cards fans to stop spinning thus causing the video card to overheat and die!
For people who dont overclock
Nvidia Drivers
For people who overclock
Nvidia Beta Driver
This should probably be sticky'd to reduce peoples hardware from burning up.

As a general rule I never update drivers for hardware devices once installed, unless I'm already having an issue. The above is a classic example of why I don't.

Actually its a good thing to get new drivers; Most due to the fact they release newer drivers to increase performance.
These new drivers increased performance by at least 33% on my machine. Just ill have to wait till they fix the fan issues with the drivers.

Last ones I updated to were the 196.21 version...so I guess I am still ok.

These drivers came out on the second i believe;
Im still using these drivers but i constantly monitor my specs so thats why ^_^
I find it hard to pass up the 20fps increase ( 50% increase from 40 to 60 in furmark )

Wannabe, Thanks for sharing this information. I was lucky that you found this out last night and I rolled back the drivers having downloaded the 196.76 drivers the day they came out. Having damaged two "260's" that are only 3 months old would have been devastating.

Did you try to call Nvidia and see what they would do for you?
