Hard drive set up

GroundTrooperWed Nov 26, 2014 9:46 pm

I'm running this drive for op system (Western Digital WD VelociRaptor WD2500HHTZ 250GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive).
This one for games Western Digital (WD VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive).
This one for swapfile with partition for programs and backups (Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3250318AS 250GB 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive).

Now the one for games is getting full, newegg is gettin on with the black friday online sales. The question is should I get a ssd for my games and would it even help besides loading the map faster. Or i will just uninstall a few of them.

Personally I'd go for the Raptor drive instead of an SSD, cost and reliability. I don't think you'd notice any difference other than your wallet would be a bit lighter.

Platter drives have been around for a long time now and are very reliable i would go for a 10.00 rpm raptor drive or a server drive over the SSD at this point unless the Black Friday sale is so good but size wise SSD are not up to snuf in the Gbyte range yet.

I feel the same ssd drives arn't big enough and cheap enough for me to make the switch. I keep hearing about faster boot up but I'm really happy with what I have. If it benefited the accuracy of my shots then probably I would have to have it

HI Guys

SSD forget platters.

We run nothing but Crucial and Intel SSDs at work for the last 4 years.
We have had almost no failures
We have 1000s of computers.

As long as your OS supports TRIM  you will get max life out of the SSD.

Most SSD are rated for 1.5 million hours do the math,

$86.99  Western Digital WD VelociRaptor WD2500HHTZ 250GB

$109.99  Crucial M500 CT240M500SSD1 2.5" 240GB SATA III

New Egg both free shipping

HMMM?!

but what do i know i''m just an It guy

This is what I picked at newegg for $50 on black friday sale. (Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail kit)
I hate it when my wife stands behind me when I'm trying to get something, it influences my decisions. So the WD 150 GB it replaces will go into the wife's pc for an extra drive, geesh. Some woman.
