my game would randomly crash, frequently, with the 'unhandled exception' error.  i finally figured it out: it was because i was sniping and pressing the shift key repeatedly, to steady my aim.  this would cause the OS (MS windows7) to try to do something for 'ease of use'.  below is the way to get there in the control panel.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use

i turned EVERYTHING off and have not crashed since.  color me happy.

Did you get the game from steam or by disc?

I freaking hate those StickyKeys "feature". It's in the list of things I disable right on a fresh OS install.

ya I always have that off for me to but it was because I had that issue with COD4 lol
