As we previously reported, Battlefield 3 will be getting three new expansions within the year. You can see it in action here, but now we have more info for you.
DICE has revealed that Close Quarters, the first expansion of a planned trio, will have an all-new game mode, but they have not disclosed what it will be just yet. Hopefully, it won’t be something that promotes camping in one area to rack up kills. People already have the Team Deathmatch mode for that.
Furthermore, DICE has also revealed that the expansion will drop the player count when playing in the new mode. It’s understandable, since the maps will be intentionally smaller in size and scope. Sorry, PC fans, I guess there won’t be any 64-player mayhem for you in this expansion. Also of note, is that the four maps being offered in Close Quarters won’t include any new vehicles. In fact, the maps won’t support any vehicles at all.
While this might seem a big departure from what the Battlefield brand is known for, time will tell if this experiment is successful. DICE did state that based on their data, Operation Metro is one of the most played maps in the game… might this be the reason they’re doing an infantry-only mode?

It is nice that EA will be releasing new game types for each new expansion. Makes for some fun times.
I'm wondering if "expansion" means $29.99 (or more) instead of DLC at $14.99. Kind of like BF2 Special Forces ($50) versus Armored Fury/Euro Forces ($10-15) back in the day.
The last expansion B2K was only $15.
