Dear friends. I have the i5-6600k and 980ti's in SLI and using Windows 10. I was getting frame drops, and it was sooooo upsetting me.
I would like to share my fix with you guys, so that we can kick butt.
First, if you use SLI (two video cards), disable DX12. SLI only works on DX11.
Second, I noticed the game taxes out my CPU heavily. Know what I discovered upon investigating? In task manager, msmpeng.exe was using 25%+ of my CPU. THIS IS THE CAUSE OF MY FRAME DROPS. This is Windows Defender.
I turned off Windows Defender, and IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE stupid THING WAS STILL RUNNING.
So, I followed the group policy part of the guide here:
http://www.ghacks.net/2015/10/25/how-to-disable-windows-defender-in-windows-10-permanently/
After a reboot, the stupid thing was disabled, and BAM what do you know... BF1 RUNS AWESOME.
Third - settings advice. Turn off motion blur. Why do you want to blur anything? Turn off depth of field. Again, why do I want my system to blur anything? Turn of TXAA. It's just another blur filter like FXAA.
Fourth - The in-game antialiasing SUCKS. Just force MSAA in your driver's control panel. 4xMSAA and 4x Transparency AA did the trick for me.
Now, instead of 40-95fps when playing, it sits solid 95-120fps easily. Im so happy.
some of those tips sound useful but i never like turning off a security program as it leave you vulnerable.
Thanks for the info Jay-Jay.
Next post please watch your language, especially in public forum.
Yikes, sorry, a bad word of colorful language slipped there. I'll edit it out.
And yes, it is disabling a security feature, but if you don't pirate software and stuff, you're safe...
Plus, for me, my gaming PC is just my gaming PC. I dont do web browsing. I play BF on it.
just to iterate, do not disable internet security, game servers are prime location for naughty people to collect IP address, locations etc etc and then use that info to try and access computers.
there was a company that connected a computer to the internet without and antivirus or internet security and it only took something like 32 minutes before it was illegally accessed and was infected with a virus within another 10mins
I will politely state my disagreement with mr-t, but that's perfectly fine. We dont have to share the same opinions on everything. I won't waste anyone's time with refuting or arguing the matter.
If you notice it taking up 25% of your CPU like I did, well, you've got choices.
But I want an argument lol. I will admit I don't run Windows defender myself as I run eset smart security which has its own spyware and malware scanners etc
Defender does allow you to add certain directories and files as an exemption so it wont scan them.
I am going to try some of your settings, I also found turning off the GPU Memory Restriction helped with the flickering I was getting on water & inside bldgs.
