Using a pistol

DiashanThu Jul 16, 2009 1:56 am

Today I tried using a pistol for the 1st real time on the BK servers. I have noticed that alot of the people here use them to get around the speed issues of crouching.

I play almost exclusively on the BK servers as I prefer this rule set.

While playing on round house I was using the pistol and the only time my sights were not raised was when I was changing weapons, looking at the map which stops your movement, reloading which drops your sights, or running from being shot at.

I moved across the map towards the North Spawn point and was engaged by 3 people. I emptied my pistol on the move and reloaded moving behind a tanker car. I moved around quite a bit while being shot at. I was than warned about running. Am I supposed to now sit still and let the 3 shoot me?

I responded in game that I was under fire.

A few minutes later I was walking with my pistol with sights up. I hit the button for the map. When I closed the map I hit the button for my sights to come up. I was than banned for 44 minutes for walking unsighted.

I constantly see people running in the game that don't get booted but the time it takes me to reload or swap from the map and bring up my sights gets me booted.

Am I now required to stop and crouch before I reload or open the map? When you come around the corner and have 3 enemy in front of you do you just stand still?

I would like to request that the rules for BK servers be changed so that all movement except under fire or naded is crouched. That would level the playing field and get rid of the huge difference in speed between the pistol and all other weapons. It would  stop the confusion about when you can run across open areas by making it never legal to run unless you are under fire.

One of my issues is I live in Alaska. The lag gets me killed alot. When I have to fire the pistol I basicly empty it hoping they die. Alot of times it looks like I have them dead to rights to find myself dead a couple steps back from were I thought I was. The lag makes everything I do take longer. The price I pay for living is such a great place.

When I use a pistol to move around and fire on someone, I crouch when I have to reload otherwise you are breaking the rules and moving unsighted.  It may seem difficult at first but once you get used to it, it becomes 2nd nature.  One good thing is that you are a smaller target when crouched and they will be looking for someone standing/walking.

I too use the pistol sighted and standing to move around the map sometimes. really the best approach in this scenario (in my oppinion) is shoot who you can real fast and if there is still someone left when you empty your round crouch and switch to your primary weapon. it seems to me that you can change weapons a lot faster than you can reload. you do need to crouch though and that does get tough to remember at times. i'm sorry to hear you accidently got kicked. sometimes the admins cannot see all that is going on and at some viewpoints it looks like your just running around. I also would like to invite you to join us on TS there are a lot of interesting people in BK and its fun to get to know them and talk with them about questions and concerns.

Yes actually..At the very least crouch while reloading..

If you are up right with pistol out and moving forward with the sight up.. then start the reload process, you'll note you start running.   So during the reload process, you're moving faster than yous hould..

It doesn't take long to learn to crouch as you reload.. I had to make that adjustement too when I first started playing here.. I didn't realize that you ran while reloading either.. =)

Food for thought....If you are firing and taking fire to the point that you need to reload, is that not an acceptable cause for running? Being under fire and running away reloading then sighting up to engage again? Sorry, new to the W@W game and therefore the server so I am looking for clarification as well.

I would argue that just because you're firing, doesn't mean you're under fire.  And just because you're reloading, it doesn't mean you're under fire.

There are many cases where I am shooting folks with the pistol, and they never saw me nor did they ever shoot back.. Thus, I was never under fire and any running I would do during this period would most certainly be "running and gunning".

The short of it is, you're only under fire when someone is actively shooting at you.. And I usually go farther and say, I'm only underfire when my screen is flashing red.  That way there is no doubt.

Quack!
